Dahlquist 15-inch down-firing digital subwoofer
Early Notes:
With the exception of the Samsung television, center channel and satellite receiver, we purchased all of this equipment online in January 2002, when Ubid's prices were low after the Christmas holiday and before many of the higher quality equipment bargains were gone. It was time consuming. We did shop locally at Circuit City and Best Buy, but couldn't find these components. They were delivered to the house over a two-week period.
The Dahlquist 15-inch digital subwoofer is a vital element of the home theatre. This really stood out when we watched U-571 and Swordfish on DVD. These films are a completely different experience when a powerful subwoofer is integrated into a surround system. U-571's depth charge explosions really do gradually move from far off in the distance until they're right on top of you (with an awe inspiring roar that you hadn't anticipated). The PDQ-1500 has volume, phase, crossover frequency and RFE controls; this made it possible to precisely tune it to the Modus One-Six towers. It's important to the subwoofer's performance to set all the controls correctly (it pays handsomely to read the brief manual).
